As we end 2022 and look back on the year, it's natural to feel a sense of sadness and disappointment.
It's been a challenging year. Marked by tragedy and difficulties that have touched every single one of us.
But even in the darkest of times, hope can be dangerous. After the chaos and destruction in 2022, can we continue to find inspiration and strength?
I think so.
Let's take a moment to remember the bad that has come out of this year. We can use the bad as motivation. Let the events we went through in 2022, fuel us to do what we must do to make the world, and our own communities, a better place.
Azerbaijan is starving the ethnic Armenian population of Artsakh. For over 20 days, more than 120,000 people have had no access to food, utilities, running water, or medical supplies.

Continued school shootings, this time in Uvalde, Texas. Gun violence ravages a July 4th parade in Highland Park, Illinois. 10 murdered in a Brooklyn subway station. 6 victims shot in a Virginia Walmart. Hate crimes continue to become normal with 5 murdered at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado. 10 people murdered by a White Supremacist in Buffalo, New York. This is only what made national news.
The overturning of Roe v. Wade and its devasting impact on women’s lives, healthcare, and US politics. Can you imagine! I still don’t believe it.
Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe assassinated. No one knows why.
Pro-democracy protests in Iran push the regime into continued madness. Arresting and executing over 10,000 protestors who oppose Iran’s strict dress code.
Afghanistan continues to go back in time. The Taliban made it illegal for women to have an education. The Taliban is running Afghanistan, a reminder if you didn’t know.
Inflation reaches its highest levels in decades. The stock markets crashed. A fraudster whose parents are lawyers: and tenured professors at Stanford Law School, made a mockery of our financial system. Stealing over 2 billion dollars and evaporating $30B in value in 1 day.
2022 was not easy. So let's always remember the pain, the struggle, and the sacrifice of those around the globe. Let 2022's calamity inspire us to take action and work towards creating a more fair world.
